‘This is My House’ is presented by this year's Nieuwe Instituut/Tilting Axis Fellow, Amanda T. McIntyre. The event will feature her lecture on her experiments with Caribbean architectural and sartorial practices in her work with the contemporary Caribbean Baby Doll masquerade. The lecture will be followed by a conversation between Amanda and Quincy Gario (Sandberg Instituut). There will also be a screening of Amanda’s art film ‘Two Years in the French West Indies.” The event will be moderated by Nieuwe Instituut researcher Federica Notari, with opening remarks from Tilting Axis cofounder Annalee Davis.

Amanda T. McIntyre is a Trinidadian artist, writer, and scholar. She is the fifth recipient of the Tilting Axis and New Institute Fellowship. She serves as the Creative Director and Principal Designer at the Dolly Mas Visual and Performing Arts Company. Her project, Present Continuous, applies digital intervention towards archiving the materiality and intellectual properties of contemporary Caribbean masquerade cultures. This work critically connects performance studies, queer studies, architectural practices, and climate justice advocacy.
Tilting Axis Fellowship
The Tilting Axis Fellowship program stimulates research practices and mutual exchange between the Caribbean and the Dutch cultural fields. In addition to the main partners Nieuwe Instituut and Tilting Axis, the fellowship is also supported by Amsterdam Museum, De Appel, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and Kunstinsituut Melly.
